“The Rec”
STUDIO 12’s “The Rec,” Program is designed for students who are new to dance, or for whom dance is one of many extracurricular activities. We offer classes in Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Drill Team Prep, Collegiate Prep, Leaps and Turns, Tumbling/Acro and more. In these classes, our experienced teachers introduce proper technique in a fun, encouraging environment. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of technique, variety of dance styles, rhythm, musicality, and performance skills. Class placement is based on age and ability. No experience needed. “The Rec” Program dancers are welcome to take as many or as few classes as they desire. Not only do these classes teach basic technique but offer interaction with peers and the dynamic of being in a group.

Class Levels
“Intro” Classes
Designed for students who have no previous training or experience. Intro classes are progressive and will build from one class to the next to teach the fundamentals.
Level 1: “Beginner”
These classes are for dancers who have just begun their dance training or are returning to dance after taking a break.
Level 3: “Intermediate”
For students who have had at least two or more years of consistent training and are comfortable with the given dance discipline. Intermediate students should have a strong interest in improving technical skills and executing more challenging movement sequences.
Level 2: “Beginner/Intermediate”
These classes move at a slightly quicker pace than beginner classes and will develop greater movement vocabulary.
Level 4: “Intermediate/Advanced”
These classes move at a slightly quicker pace than intermediate classes and will develop greater movement vocabulary.
Level 5: “Advanced”
For students with many years of training who have a high level of proficiency and understanding of movement and alignment concepts.
"THE REC"
"THE REC"
BALLET
Focuses on exercise, techniques, and steps of classical ballet with an emphasis on terminology and correct body alignment. Develops an aesthetic awareness of the art of classical ballet. Includes a warm-up at the barre with center floor work and combinations.
JAZZ
Jazz dance is an exploration of style and presentation. Rooted in the rhythm of jazz music, jazz dance is a true American art form. Includes a warm-up that develops strength, flexibility, coordination, and dance techniques specific to jazz dance. Includes dynamic choreography set to popular music and encourages individual expression and development of personal style.
TAP
Tap dance uses the sound of the tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. Tap dance sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination. Beginner classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations. More advanced classes will involve more intricate rhythms and combinations. Tap dancing is great way to develop musicality, timing, and balance.
HIPHOP
A high-energy dance form using the latest music mixed with movements that are influenced by some of today’s top video choreographers. Hip Hop is a broad collection of urban street dance styles including breaking, popping, locking, turfing, jerkin and krumping and often incorporates elements of freestlying. Classes will provide a structured method of learning various styles of movement in a fun and vibrant environment. Each class will incorporate dance combinations and routines and will encourage individual expression and personal style.
CONTEMPORARY
Characterized by its versatility, Contemporary dance can be danced to any style of music and united with other dance forms to create a new style of movement. Students learn to use their bodies in a variety of ways. Technique, body alignment, and emotion are essential to establishing a mind-body connection. Contemporary dance features a wide variety of dance techniques, reflecting its melting pot nature.
MUSICAL THEATER
This class is a jazzed based class with broadway style dancing and music. Classes incorporate the style of dance one would typically see on a broadway stage. Drawing from many dance styles, theater dance incorporates elements of acting combined with dance as it pertains to musical theatre. Classes will focus on proper technique and musicality and will include upbeat choreography from popular musicals.
TUMBLING
In this class athletes will learn to stretch and strengthen their bodies to prepare for basic tumbling skills, including rolls, kart wheels, front and back walkovers, handsprings, and in upper level classes ariels, back hand springs, back tucks etc. These classes need consistent training and dedication to master their craft. We suggest 2-3 classes a week to perfect and master their craft.
ACRO
This class is a fusion of classical dance technique and tumbling. These athletes will develop strength, control, and flexibility while mastering graceful and fluid acrobatic dance skills. Develop power and technique to perform difficult tricks and skills. Some tricks you can expect to learn are: Head springs, chin stands, valdez, kip up, back split rolls. These skills take dedication and strength to master. We recommend taking 2-3 acro classes a week to master these skills.
DRILL TEAM PREP
A preparatory class that focuses on skills necessary to audition for high school drill team. The class consists of stretching to gain flexibility for splits and kicks, learning proper kick technique and advancing other kills needed for auditions.
COLLEGIATE PREP
These classes prepare dancers who wish to pursue a career in the professional dance industry. You will train with an industry level teach who will prepare you for the collegiate level programs. The style usually learned in theses callas are primarily Hip hop, pom and jazz. Focusing on technical training and audition prep as well.
